Sachse Cemetery
Cemetery History
During the 1890s, William Sachse generously donated 2 acres of his property, which he referred to as "God's Acre," to be used for the construction of a church and cemetery. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1899 before the church could be built and he was the first to be interred in the cemetery he had gifted.

The Sachse Christian Church, built in 1907, was located on the property to the west of the Sachse Cemetery. The cemetery was managed by the Church Sexton of the Sachse Christian Church, who was responsible for the upkeep of the church, its contents, and the graveyard. The Sexton also served as a bell-ringer and gravedigger, among other duties. The Sachse Christian Church managed the cemetery for many years until the congregation decided to create the Sachse Cemetery Foundation.

The Sachse Cemetery Foundation was established as a nonprofit Texas Corporation on October 12, 1971, by G.H. Kelsoe, Jr., Mary Kelsoe, and Dee Brown Walker. The Texas Secretary of State accepted the foundation's documents on November 17, 1971.

The Sachse Cemetery Foundation is a non-profit organization that was established to provide care for the graves of the early settlers of Dallas County, Texas and their descendants who are buried in the Sachse Cemetery. As a non-perpetual care cemetery, the mission was to ensure that the final resting place of these individuals is maintained and preserved for future generations.

The Sachse Cemetery Foundation's charter granted the trustees the authority to make changes to the cemetery's operation as needed for its continued functioning. With the growth of the town of Sachse, the cemetery expanded its services to include burials of individuals who were not related to the early settlers of the area. Presently, the Sachse Cemetery welcomes individuals of any faith or residency for burial.
